No doubt, there have been volumes written on the subject of the love of God, and more will follow for God’s love is immeasurable.

The scope and magnitude of that is greater than the human intellect can fathom. That God would even give mankind the privilege of grasping a fraction of His essence is a marvelous manifestation of His goodness and grace. Scripture reveals aspects of His love. There is the motivating love of God that caused the Heavenly Father to send the uniquely born One. The Apostle John penned --

… “for God so loved the world that He gave His one begotten (uniquely born) Son, that who so ever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal Life.”
(John 3:16 NASB)

That Divine motivation of love to extend grace to sinful humanity is foreign to the thinking of the natural man. We love those who love us, but God’s love was demonstrated in Christ --

… “in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
(Rom 5:8 KJV)

Those who have appropriated that love by faith know the joy of His sustaining love. Not only is there the present possession of eternal life, but there is the assurance from His Word that He will sustain all those who are His by faith in Christ. God is faithful and He says --

… “I will never leave thee or forsake thee.”
(Heb 13:5)

Does He not promise to supply our every need so that our life on earth can fulfill all that He desires for it to be? That is why the Apostle Paul can affirm --

… “my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
(Philp. 4:19 NASB)

David, King of Israel knew of the sustaining love of God when he wrote Psalm 23. He begins with --… “the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” and David concludes with -- … “surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” Not only is God’s love demonstrated in sending the Son, but then God extends His personal love to each individual who has received the Son by faith. Paul reminds each of us that nothing in this life or in the unseen angelic realm is able to remove us from the protective and preserving power of God’s love.

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Rom 8:38-39 NASB)

Frederick Lehman and Meir Ben Isaac Nehorai penned the lyrics of this beautiful hymn.

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.

Could we with ink the ocean fill and were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole, tho’ stretched from sky to sky.
