In the time in which we live where there seems to be so many things that can disturb our soul, it is comforting to know that the Lord Jesus Christ controls history and His grace is sufficient for our every need.

Many have shared their burden over the safety of loved ones deployed in areas of combat. Others struggle with failing health. As believers in Christ we have the privilege of entering into the very presence of the Heavenly Father through prayer on behalf of these. The writer of the Hebrews encourages other with his words --

… “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
(Heb 4:16 KJV)

How comforting it is to use the greatest weapon given the Christian -- that of prayer. As we commune with the Father and ponder His Word, we are encouraged in the spiritual battle knowing that the victories have already been won by Christ on the Cross. However, the defeated enemy, Satan, still strives to render us ineffective in the Christian life. He seeks to have us focus on the problems, on the unknown, on the difficulties, on the possibility of increased trials and pressures. He frequently uses his greatest weapon, the fear of death, to neutralize the Christian. Remember, God says repeatedly – “fear not.” If we choose to focus on the thinking and activity of the Adversary, then we become a casualty in the unseen warfare. However, if we choose to rest in God’s promises and apply His Truth to the difficulties and circumstances of life, we find that the Adversary flees and we have rest for our souls. James, in his epistle to Christians suffering great persecution in the first century, wrote --

… “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
(James 4:7 NIV)

A friend has written a poem that speaks of the safety, security, rest and tranquility of soul that is ours as we draw near to God.

A Place Near Me
By Janice Minton
When life takes us to a high and windy place, filled with doubt and fear,
Just listen for the voice of God, for He is always near.
“There is a place near Me, He says, upon this Rock you stand.
I’ll pass by you to clear the way, and I’ll protect you in my hand.”
God does not turn His back on me because He wants me not to see …
But hides me in His clefted Rock as He proceeds ahead of me.
He’s leading me along the way, no matter what I’m going through,
And Faith demands I trust in Him, and believe His promises are true.
I’m not allowed to see His face, but ever visible is His Grace.
He shelters me inside the Rock, my perfectly provisioned place.
He bids me follow Him, in faith, as He gently leads the way,
And the result of the situation will be revealed to me one day.
“And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place beside Me, and you shall stand upon the rock, and while My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.”
(Ex 33:21-22 Amplified Bible)
