We are living in very uncertain days.

There is an increase in violence against persons, particularly women and children. We have outbreaks of warfare occurring in various places motivated by the lust for power, with no remorse for the human carnage that occurs. There are vast areas that experience disease of immense proportions. Financial and domestic issues seem to be tearing apart the fundamental principles necessary for a nation to survive and prosper. The spiritual fiber of many nations appears at an all time low. Such conditions can illicit in individuals a reaction of fear and worry. These contemplate how such conditions will affect me personally, my family, my job, or my retirement. The news media abounds with commentary and opinions, yet few solutions are offered that seem to have lasting substance. Few if any, are able to see past the symptoms and examine the causes of the malady which ultimately are spiritual in nature. The Word of God is the one source that addresses every problem that can be experienced in human history. How encouraging then, should it be for the Christian to live in a time that gives such opportunity to demonstrate the wisdom that comes from learning and applying Truth in the circumstances that we experience? When worry confronts us, we can recall to mind that refreshing and liberating promise expressed so eloquently by the Apostle Paul in his letter to the believers in Philippi --

… “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
(Phil 4:6-7 NIV)

Perhaps it is the promise given to us through the preaching of Isaiah that comes to our minds in time of trouble --

… “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
(Isa 41:10 KJV)

Yes, the Lord Jesus Christ is in control of history. Satan’s mode of operation in this world is limited to God’s permissive will. Our God is Sovereign over all. Israel’s greatest ruler, King David wrote --

… “The Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice.”
(Ps 97:1 KJV)

The believer in Christ has the confidence that whatever God allows to come into ones life, His grace is sufficient. There are no unknowns with God, only with us. We may not know what tomorrow will hold, but we can know the One who holds tomorrow. Therefore, the Christian who knows God’s precious promises and rests in them is not overcome in days of uncertainty. There is that quiet confidence that God knows just where I am, He knows my circumstances, He has ordered and numbered by days, I will trust Him rather than self. Suddenly faith replaces fear; I rest in His care.

… “my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
(Phil 4:19 NASB)
