Unnumbered millions upon millions of lights suspended in the heavens, perfectly positioned and ordered, tell the human mind of the greatness of the One who is the true God above all earthly man made gods. Paul, in writing to the Romans, affirms that it is God who reveals Himself to mankind first, through the very things that are seen.
“Ever since God created the world, his invisible qualities, both his eternal power and his divine nature, have been clearly seen; they are perceived in the things that God has made.”(Rom 1:20)
God’s perfect character, His very essence, is declared in creation and revealed to mankind regardless of time or location. The psalmists wrote --
… “The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.”(Ps 97:6)
What man can see with his naked eye is enough to implant into his thinking the very existence of God. In recent years, we have seen beyond what the eye sees and into the heavenly bodies through such wonderful implements as the Hubble telescope. Images of unbelievable beauty and majesty of God’s starry creation have been transmitted to earth. Not only what we can now see is wonderful, but it is just as evident that there is no limit to what is still to be discovered beyond the reaches of our current technology. Could not the God of the universe with Divine humor be chuckling as He waits for man to discover another of His heavenly portraits? Its vastness is beyond comprehension for God has said that the earth and its heavens are but a span of his hand.
“Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.”(Isa 48:13)
Can we even comprehend with the human mind the magnitude of God’s creation? David, King of Israel wrote in praise of his great God --
… “When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; what is man, that thou art mindful of him, and the son of man, that thou visitest him?”(Ps 8:3-4)
Yet the awesome Truth is that God is mindful of each one of us, so much so, that He is not willing that any should perish. John expressed it in what is the most well known verse in Scripture --
… “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”(John 3:16)
Such love demanded that He take upon Himself humanity and go to the Cross to redeem fallen mankind. That was accomplished nearly two thousand years ago. From that Cross, the Lord Jesus Christ in victory over sin and death screamed out “IT IS FINISHED.” Mankind was redeemed and reconciled to God. On Him were placed our sins and by simple faith in the accomplished Work of His Cross we are offered eternal life.
“O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!”(Ps 8:9)
