What Am I?

That is a question that calls one to self examination; an examination in light of the Word of God. We are reminded in Scripture that we are but dust and yet the same Scriptures tell us of the wonderful position that we enjoy in Christ through faith in Him. If we were to consider only our natural state, it would cause us to recognize that we are not only mortal, but we are spiritually in a state that has no remedy in and of itself. However the good news of the gospel is that God has provided a spiritual remedy in the Person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Every individual can have a relationship with God which is personal and intimate through faith in Christ. Receiving that truth places us in Him as God’s possession. The Apostle Peter proclaimed this message when he penned --

… “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
(1 Peter 2:9 NASB)

Ours then becomes the privilege of growing in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord. What we were formerly in our natural state, can now be transformed by Him as He conforms us to His image through the Word. We become reflectors of His light that shines in a world of darkness and sin. When we have this understanding of who and what we are in Christ, it stimulates, motivates and develops confidence in us toward our Lord to trust Him in every circumstance of life. Instead of worry, we cast our cares on Him and rest in the assurance that His provision and solution for our needs is always perfect --

… “But as for me, I would seek God, And I would place my cause before God; Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number.”
(Job 5: 8-9 NASB)
What Am I?
by Barbara McCarty
What am I but a flicker of faith, a splinter of Son light,
a hand held by hope. I am a hand-maiden of the Lord.
I wait for Him in the sacred secret place where we abide.
His fragrance is all around me; it covers me like wings.
The richness of this treasure is in the good pleasure
of Him whom I serve. Day by day, hour by hour,
stronger grows the power of this love.
I am consumed by the flames until all that
remains is a flicker of faith,
A splinter of Son light, a hand held by hope.
