The month of July brings into focus again the wonderful freedom that you and I enjoy and the great price by which that freedom was gained.

Motivated to pursue religious freedom, our forefathers embarked from their homelands and came to a new land determined that the Divine principle of freedom be the cornerstone of the new emerging nation. Since that proclamation of freedom in 1776, each generation has had to struggle to maintain that freedom and to put down evil tyranny that seeks to enslave a free people. King David of Israel understood the necessity to wage war against those who wanted to enslave the Jews and destroy their way of life. He had to defeat his enemies on all sides in order that there ultimately would be peace and prosperity. Thus when his son, Solomon, came to the throne he did not have to secure the peace for his nation. His father had accomplished that; thus, the young king was able to devote his energies and resources to building a temple for the Name of the Lord his God. National freedom was necessary first, before the people could enjoy the blessings of spiritual freedom. Freedom through military victory permits individual liberty and with that liberty there is the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. All true freedom ultimately finds its foundation in the Word of God which reveals the Person of Christ, the Savior.

“You shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.”
(John 8:32)

“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
(John 8:36)
