There is something about a shower that is so refreshing; it cools the earth quickly and it gives a rinsing to new leaves that have sprouted but are now covered with dust.

Thus cooling, cleansing showers are a wonderful analogy to the Word of God. The Scriptures speak much about showers as a blessing from God. It is the Lord our God who makes the rain, whose heavens give showers.

“Are there any among the idols of the nations who give rain? Or can the heavens grant showers? Is it not Thou, O LORD our God? Therefore we hope in Thee, for Thou art the one who hast done all these things.”
(Jer 14:22 NASB)

The showers fall on newly plowed fields, thus enriching the soil in preparation for planting. The moist soil generates the energy that bursts open the seed and springs forth exactly that which was sown.

“You show your care for the land by sending rain; you make it rich and fertile. You fill the streams with water; you provide the earth with crops. This is how you do it: you send abundant rain on the plowed fields and soak them with water; you soften the soil with showers and cause the young plants to grow.”
(Psalm 65:10 TEV)

The Bible speaks of showers as Truth, doctrine, that refreshes the soul; that which causes us to live beyond circumstances and causes us to put our eyes on Him.

“Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.”
(Deut 32:1-2 NIV)

The lack of showers, God’s Word, in our lives, results in drought, and spiritual famine. Just as the earth needs rain, so each of us who know Christ as our Savior need the Word taught to us so that we may grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord. We have the Scriptures, the showers of blessing. Why not avail ourselves of the opportunities to learn of Him? The Psalmist wrote --

… “Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”
(Ps119:11-16 KJV)
